During the Gold Rush Clark, Gruber, & Co. minted gold dust into coinage. Pieces struck from 1860 to 1861 mimicked federally struck coins, replacing “LIBERTY” on the obverse with “CLARK & CO.” and changing “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” on the reverse to “PIKES PEAK GOLD DENVER.”
